Hello!

 

My name is Erica Rivera. I am the CEO and Founder of the STEMinist Foundation. I created the foundation to build a platform and withhold a place to empower young girls, especially women of color to pursue STEM. What inspired me to create the foundation was being introduced to the lack of representation in the tech companies I would intern during the summers of my college career. After my freshman at Stanford University, I landed an internship at Facebook in the Seattle office. On the first day of my internship, while dropping me off in front of the office, my Uber driver asked me if I was working at Facebook as a secretary, rather as an engineer. Feeling so excited yet anxious on the first day at work, I  found his comment discouraging. I realized that society doesn't view women capable of becoming engineers. The world does not empower the woman to pursue a career STEM. So often young girls are discouraged.

And that's when I decided to create this foundation...
